The United States has an absolute record for daily coronavirus infections: More than 205,000 people tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday. However, the figure could include some cases from the day before in some states, when Thanksgiving was celebrated, and 20 states did not report Covid’s balance sheet, CNN reports.
After a week of celebration and Thanksgiving, more and more experts are warning that the Covid epidemic in the US will only get worse in the coming weeks and that the situation could only improve when the vaccine against the disease is ready.
Dr. Leana Wen, an emergency physician and university professor, says the United States “is rapidly approaching a calamity” and that “the daily death toll will soon exceed 2,000, maybe 3,000 or 4,000.”
It is the 25th consecutive day that the United States has more than 100,000 coronavirus infections a day and hospitalizations remain at a record level. Two days before Thanksgiving, the United States recorded more than 2,000 deaths from Covid-19 in one day.
