Economy Minister Virgil Popescu said that half of the sanitary masks sold on the market do not protect against the new coronavirus. The Minister specified that, after the controls carried out by the ANPC inspectors on the mask dealers, numerous irregularities were discovered.
Under these conditions, Virgil Popescu said, the Ministry of Economy will issue an order requiring merchants to specify it in the case of non-conforming products.
“I am disappointed with the quality of the masks on the market at the moment. If I tell you that half of the masks currently on sale in distribution networks – hypermarkets, pharmacies, warehouses, importers – do not respect us, that is, they do not protect us, you would say that I am exaggerating, but that is the reality. I want to send a very clear message that this must end. We cannot accept the sale of masks that do not protect the population “, declared Minister Virgil Popescu.
The Minister stated that the ANPC inspectors imposed fines totaling 18 million lei on some traders who had such non-conforming sanitary masks on the shelf. In this context, Virgil Popescu advised people who buy products of Romanian origin, that they comply with the health protection regulations.
“All unsupported masks are imported masks. I want to tell Romanians that we have more than 16 companies producing masks in Romania, which can meet all Romanian consumer needs and I advise you to look for Romanian products, because they are accredited, verified and they are the best in the market. We will issue an order clearly stating that these masks do not provide protection against Covid, so that people know when they buy that, if that product is on the shelf and it is called a mask, it is not a mask that protects “, Virgil Popescu added. .
