Active people, who exercise regularly, have a lower risk of hospitalization if they contract COVID-19 than inactive people, according to a study conducted in Brazil by the São Paulo State Research Foundation, Xinhua reports, according to Agerpres.

The study was based on a survey conducted by the University of Sao Paulo in collaboration with other Brazilian higher education centers and included 938 Brazilians who contracted COVID-19.

“There was a 34.3% reduction in hospitalization in the group considered sufficiently active,” according to the research.

Enough assets it was defined as at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity or 75 minutes of high-intensity activity per week, the study shows.

The risk of hospitalization was also found to be higher in overweight or obese patients, as well as in people with low levels of education and socioeconomic status, the study states.
