“Not long ago, I learned that Washington was secretly playing an unscrupulous game, asking its allies to agree to the signing of documents under which they will send American material on observation flights over Russia. The United States is asking Europeans to refuse Russia to conduct observation flights over US military installations in Europe, “said Konstantin Gavrilov.
“This is a serious violation of the treaty. If the remaining countries of the treaty play the game in the United States, our retaliatory measures will not be long in coming,” the Russian diplomat warned.

Gavrilov emphasized that if Russia’s partners in this treaty want to ensure its viability, they must confirm that the data contained in aerial photographs taken during observation flights are classified and can only be accessed by the parties to the agreement. “We intend to obtain strict compliance by the European partners with the provisions of the treaty on the non-transmission of this information,” he insisted.
If they decide to return to the Open Skies Treaty, the United States will have to do so generally and under the conditions of the participating countries, Gavrilov said.
