Antony Blinken, 58, is one of Joe Biden’s top foreign policy advisers and was number two in the State Department during President Barack Obama’s tenure while Biden was vice president. According to the New York Times and Bloomberg, the president-elect intends to announce the appointment of the secretary of state on Tuesday.

A staunch supporter of multilateralism, Blinken would succeed Mike Pompeo, President Donald Trump’s secretary of state, a supporter of “maximum pressure” on Iran and an uncompromising policy toward China, AFP notes.
