President Klaus Iohannis was asked on Sunday morning if a quarantine is required in Bucharest, given that several towns in Ilfov have been quarantined due to the large increase in the number of coronavirus cases, with the county ranking second in the country to a rhythm of infection. In the capital, the incidence of new cases per thousand inhabitants in the last 14 days stood at yesterday’s level of 5.88.
“You see, the quarantine is a complex measure to restrict traffic in essence, which allows to control the spread of the pandemic in a locality,” replied the president, when asked if in the coming weeks the capital is at risk of entering quarantined.
“We have already been taking quarantine measures for several weeks and the first results have begun to appear. Where quarantine measures have been taken, that uncontrolled increase in cases from one week to the next has, in all cases, ceased and the restrictions will remain in place until the number of infections begins to decline, but not just in one day. , but on several consecutive days, so it can be considered that the infection is no longer spreading at a gallop. It is a measure that has proven its effectiveness, but the problem is not the measure itself, but the economic effect, because these restrictions have a measurable negative economic effect. That is why experts recommend, after careful and very detailed analysis, where quarantine is required and where it is not, ”said Klaus Iohannis.
“Unfortunately, there are quite a few localities that are now being proposed for quarantine, but I think that everywhere in a relatively short time, usually two, three weeks, things go back to some normality, so the pandemic does not go away, but it does come back. to enter figures that correspond to the national average and, in this way, we can keep the epidemic under control, acting locally and regionally for it, “said the head of state.
