In the midst of the pandemic, the first hopes begin to emerge: we could soon have a vaccine against the coronavirus. The first emergency request for the vaccine announced by the US pharmaceutical group Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech was filed in Washington. They have asked the US Drug Agency (FDA) for the green light and could be the first manufacturers in the world to request the vaccine.

The coordinator of the COVID vaccination campaign in Romania, the military doctor Valeriu Gheorghiță, declared on Digi24 on Saturday that Romania’s vaccination strategy is complete. Authorities await approval of the vaccine by international authorities and its distribution so that immunization can begin.

“Romania is part of a European approach and represents an equal part of this approach, we are on an equal footing with all EU member states. When a vaccine receives approval from the European Medicines Agency, it will begin simultaneous distribution in all countries that have adhered to that single contract concluded by the European Commission, ”said Dr. Valeriu Gheorghiță, at Digi24.

“Right now I can tell you that we are at the end of the national vaccination strategy against SARS-CoV-2. Vaccination will be free and voluntary, in no case will it be conditional or mandatory, and from this point of view I believe that everyone should have a sufficiently high level of accurate data and from reliable and credible sources before deciding this. ”Added the coordinator of the vaccination campaign against COVID-19 in Romania.

However, he specified that a level of herd immunity of 60-70% of the population is needed for vaccination to lead to the end of the pandemic.

Likewise, vaccination will be carried out in three stages: the first will be the employees of the health system, then the social assistance institutions, followed by the general population.
