A federal judge on Saturday rejected a lawsuit brought by President Donald Trump’s campaign team, which attempted to nullify millions of votes by mail in Pennsylvania. It is a major blow to President Trump’s efforts to overthrow the November 3 election result that Democrat Joe Biden won.
District Judge Matthew Brann of Williamsport, Pennsylvania, described the case as “forced, unfounded legal arguments and speculative charges,” reports Agerpres.
Brann added that “he does not have the authority to remove the right to vote for even one person, let alone millions of citizens.”
Judge Matthew Brann ruled that Trump’s campaign team could not prove that there was widespread voter fraud in the Nov. 3 election, which Republican Donald Trump lost to Democrat Joe Biden.
The trial, led by Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani, attempted to prevent officials from certifying Joe Biden’s victory in the state, arguing that some counties had mistakenly allowed voters to correct errors on the ballot.
“I told everyone who would listen to me: these demands are unfounded,” Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro said on Twitter after learning of the decision.
Trump demanded another vote recount in the state of Georgia
On the other hand, the team of lawyers of US President Donald Trump requested on Saturday another recount of the votes in the state of Georgia, the cited source mentions.
Georgia Governor Brian Kemp and Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, both Republicans and President, independently certified the results after the first recount Thursday. The move confirmed the victory of Democrat Joe Biden, who garnered more than 12,000 more votes in the state in the November 3 presidential election.
As the difference is less than 0.5% of the total number of votes, Georgian law allows the defeated candidate to request a recount.
This is one of dozens of lawsuits filed by Trump and his Republican allies after the election. Trump is seeking a new term as president of the United States, challenging election results in several states and claiming that the election was marred by widespread fraud. Donald Trump’s campaign team did not provide evidence of allegations of widespread coordinated voter fraud.
At the same time, they seek to invalidate or change the results by counting votes and direct pressure on MPs in various states.
