After the elections, several town halls and county councils announced restructuring. In Prahova, for example, more than 300 City Hall employees will be laid off.
The new management claims that significant amounts will be saved in the budget. The move is brutal on the eve of winter, amid a pandemic, say trade unionists, threatening to sue.
Eight firefighters from the Prahova City Council, with salaries between 5 and 6,000 lei, will have to look for work. Also the guards. And the county plant and road protection directorate will be abolished. Here, 4,000,000 lei were spent annually on the salaries of 55 people.
Iulian Dumitrescu, Prahova County Council President: “I asked him what he was doing, practically the answer was nothing. I found the current structure covered, without the desire to work, without a clear culture of objectives, on the other hand, let’s say, full of partisan files.”
Trade unionists have criticized the measures and are preparing to defend the goals of the restructuring.
Gheorghe Panait, Leader of the Free and Independent Trade Union of Prahova City Council: “I know a CJ employee whose husband no longer exists and they have two dependent children. There are people who have loans. Putting a price on the economy with the salary fund seems to me, at least in Prahova, something totally insignificant.”
After the redundancies in the budget, 100 million lei will be saved in 4 years, says the leadership of the Prahova City Council.
The Bihor City Council management also announced the reduction of the number of employees, from 176 to 88. The first service directed is that of European projects. In addition, these employees had huge bonuses – says the new management.
Mircea Malan, Vice President of Bihor County Council: “As a general rule, an increase of 50% is granted. We have decided that the maximum increase that can be granted to the project manager will be 30%. “
The new president of the Caraş-Severin City Council also warned that it will have a more airy organization chart. Some of the employees will be restructured, resulting in savings of 600,000 euros per month, since now the salary fund is almost three times higher.
However, the new, much smaller organization charts also need approval from county councilors.
