The electoral college opened by the Moldovan authorities in the German city of Frankfurt for the second round of the presidential elections was closed for about an hour due to a bomb alert that later turned out to be false, announced Vladimir Şarban, vice president of the Commission. Central Electoral Service of the Republic of Moldova, according to Agerpres.
According to the cited source, following investigation by German authorities, the alert was found to be false and the voting process was resumed.
“I had an extreme situation, an absolutely unusual situation in a polling station abroad, that is to say, the one in Frankfurt-Germany. It was a bomb alert. Thank goodness a false alert, but the polling station was closed for almost an hour. Now we have information that the electoral process is proceeding normally in this electoral college, ”said Şarban.
As of 18:00, more than 209,450 Moldovan citizens had voted at polling stations abroad.
In the second round of the presidential elections in the Republic of Moldova, the candidate of the Action and Solidarity Party, Maia Sandu, and the current president, Igor Dodon, who entered the electoral race as independent, with the support of the Socialist Party of the Republic of Moldova. In the first round, held on November 1, Maia Sandu obtained 36.16% of the votes and Igor Dodon 32.61%.
