The proposal to ban gasoline and diesel cars from 2030 came from members of the Electric Vehicle Association of England. According to a survey conducted this year, 60% of Britons believe that this measure would be beneficial. Furthermore, 96% of those surveyed said that the health effects would be beneficial. 73% of those surveyed believe that this would also generate positive effects for the economy.
The two initially established deadlines have been reassessed
The first deadline to ban sales was 2040. However, experts warned that in this case, diesel vehicles will continue to operate until around 2050, when the pollution situation would be much more alarming than it is today.
Then, following this warning, the British Government, led by Prime Minister Boris Johnson, decided to advance the deadline, which was set for 2035. A reassessment of the situation led to the decision to stop sales in 2030.
