Seven pharmaceutical companies developing anti-Covid vaccines have been the target of a cyberattack organized by three groups of hackers working for the governments of Russia and North Korea.
According to the BBC, hackers from North Korea and Russia have attempted to break into the systems of various pharmaceutical companies involved in the development of the Covid vaccine. The Russian group is called “Fancy Bear”, while the other two in North Korea call themselves “Zinc” and “Cerium”. The Russians allegedly acted insistently by entering millions of password combinations to access computer systems.
The groups worked for the governments of Russia and North Korea. The hackers targeted pharmaceutical companies that have COVID-19 vaccines at various stages of the studies. The targets were from countries like Canada, France, India, South Korea and the United States. Russia has denied its involvement, the BBC reports.
“The question is: are they doing this just for information, to see what the scenario is, to try to spread false information about the vaccine, or to steal research? The security team must act correctly every minute of the day, while operations cybernetics in Russia must act correctly only once “said Theresa Payton, CEO of Fortalice Solutions, a cybersecurity expert.
This is not the first time that hackers have tried to break into the systems of pharmaceutical companies. In July, Canada, England and the United States were targeted by cyberattacks.
