The public statement made by the president of the Vaslui City Council, Dumitru Buzatu, during a television program, according to which the ALDE councilor, Cristian Turcu, resigned after revelations about his conviction for trafficking in minors, is not true.
Cristian Turcu declared for “Adevărul” that he did not resign from his position and has no intention of doing so because he considers that he has no reason, because he considers himself rehabilitated and fit to hold public office. When asked why Dumitru Buzatu said that he would resign as long as he did not resort to such a gesture, Turcu replied that the CJ president probably expected a resignation.
Cristian Turcu affirms that neither Dumitru Buzatu nor the leaders of his party demanded his resignation. “You think they didn’t know about my problems?” He asked rhetorically. Cristian Turcu blames his criminal problems on the “waves of youth” and defends himself by pointing to other local or national politicians who have a history of criminal convictions, but who nevertheless hold public office.
In the dialogue with the reporter “Adevărul”, Cristian Turcu also hinted that he would be a victim that, in fact, his conviction had a political background, being at that time vice president of the local youth organization of the PNL Vaslui. In the end, however, the politician admitted that he is not proud of what he did and that he regrets not having come out in public until now to clarify his problems.
“I have been a militant since 2002, I have been in politics since I was 18, I started working as a party below, I started putting up posters and then I slowly ran up the lists of a political party. In 2010, when I was convicted, I was the vice president of the PNL Vaslui, in my youth. I was working in a club at the time. More or less innocent things happened. There are not always people of good faith in the clubs. I still consider myself innocent, but my public office led to the outcome that happened (ed. – conviction). I took a step back, I realized that I am a victim, that it is not good for the image. That sentence was also dictated by the fact that I was a politician. It’s my opinion, ”said Cristian Turcu.
It should be noted that the case of trafficking in minors, in which Cristian Turcu was tried, was tried by one of the most demanding magistrates of the Vaslui Court, and during the judgment Cristian Turcu was better known in terms of his activity in clubs. , by no means the politician.
After the 2010 conviction, Cristian Turcu claims that he continued to do politics, but that he no longer ran for public office, so as not to damage the party’s image. Initially NLP, then ALDE.

“I would not have entered politics if the county we are in does not look like we have been for 30 years. I believe that the youth of today, through the ideas and constructions that they want to do, can make auspicious changes,” he says Cristian Turcu.
As for the criminal acts, in the end, the councilor decided to publicly admit that he is not proud of what he did.
“I’m sorry about my youth, I’m sorry about having my head in the clouds, probably. Certain junctures, how can I tell you, are certain things in life that you should avoid, and I didn’t know how to avoid them. He was not my friend (n. Red. – the trafficker who transported minors to Italy), he was an acquaintance. During that period, tens of thousands of people passed me. I don’t care what happened in the past. I don’t like what it was, I’m not proud of what I did, why it happened during that time. I did not quit the CJ, everyone told me I ran away. I don’t run, I choose to stay, ”added Turcu.
Asked if his resignation does not consider a gesture of honor, Cristian Turcu points to other politicians who hold public positions, although they have been convicted.
“Okay, it’s a serious action that I did. But isn’t it a serious act when you get drunk at the wheel and crash into the police car and it turns out that you are under the influence of narcotics and now you are secretary of state? what I did. Do you think it was easy for me? I ran away for a long time, because I was ashamed, ashamed of my youth. I have rehabilitated myself and I want to put what I learned into practice. I regret not having made it public before to clarify these things, “he concluded Cristian Turcu.
In 2010, Cristian Turcu was sentenced by the Vaslui Court to three years in prison with suspension, after recruiting two younger sisters, who he later sold to a pimp for 1,000 euros, for the purpose of sexual exploitation in Italy. The sentence stood firm, and in 2016, Cristian Turcu submitted an application to the Vaslui Court requesting rehabilitation. Once the legal conditions were fulfilled, the request was admitted by the court, so that as of 2016, Cristian Turcu’s criminal record is clean.
Cristian Turcu, candidate on the ALDE lists for a councilor position in Vaslui City Council, was validated in office on November 9, after other candidates, opposite him on the list, resigned. In addition to the post of county councilor, Turcu was also elected to the specialized commissions of the Vaslui County Council, one of which is that of social protection, child protection and education.
