Sweden will ban the sale of alcohol after 10 p.m. in bars and restaurants, starting on November 20, writes Bloomberg. It is the first form of lockdown that Sweden has announced since the beginning of the pandemic, using only the formula of recommendations so far.

All bars selling alcoholic beverages in Sweden will close at 10:30 p.m. on November 20.

“We are facing a situation that may become very serious. We risk reaching the position we were in in the spring,” Prime Minister Stefan Lofven said.

Recently, the authorities of 13 of the 21 regions of Sweden issued recommendations to the population, including avoiding physical contact with people outside the home.

However, the recommendations appear to have limited effect. In the last week, the number of infections has reached a new record and hospitals are facing large numbers of hospitalizations.

Prime Minister Lofven said he was willing to impose stricter measures to limit public gatherings if the recommendations didn’t work.

In the last ten days, the number of patients with ATI has doubled in Sweden.
