We will have severe restrictions until an effective Covid-19 vaccine appears, President Klaus Iohannis said Tuesday night after a meeting to assess measures to handle the COVID-19 epidemic.

The main statements of President Klaus Iohannis:

– We had a new evaluation session, focused on the preparation of the national vaccination campaign against Covid-19

– All of Europe is in a dramatic moment. European states are in a serious health crisis.

– Until we have an effective vaccine, there is no other solution than to impose new severe restrictions to cover the infection curve.

– It is the only functional strategy adopted by all countries where disease outbreaks occur.

– Romania faces an extremely difficult situation

– The restrictions that came into effect yesterday have only one purpose: to protect the population and reduce the enormous pressure on the health system

– It is absolutely understandable that these measures are not popular and difficult to accept after a year in which we had to radically change our way of life.

– Unfortunately, due to the virulence of this virus, we have all seen that less restrictive regulations have been insufficient

– The news that a vaccine will come out as soon as possible is pretty good, but we have to be realistic. There are still a few steps left before the actual vaccination

– Romania will benefit equally from these vaccines. We have a vaccination strategy and implementation activities are established

– The vaccine will initially benefit all health personnel and people at higher risk of developing severe forms of the disease.

– A well-organized vaccination campaign will give us the opportunity to return sooner to the normality that we all want

– The second issue I want to refer to is the second round of the presidential elections in the Republic of Moldova, which will take place at the end of this week.

– I was happy to see in the first round a vote of the citizens for Maia Sandu, this being in fact a vote in favor of an irreversible democratic evolution

– I have always emphasized that the road to Europe is one of progress, with bold reforms, especially in the area of justice and the strengthening of democracy.

– Romania will continue to support Moldova in its modernization efforts. Romania has already invested significantly and selflessly in infrastructure, schools, hospitals, kindergartens and many other fields.

– We are and are sleeping to remain a solid partner for civil society in the Republic of Moldova.

– We will be extremely careful in conducting the elections, to ensure that the future of Moldova is decided exclusively by the free vote of the citizens.

Klaus Iohannis had a meeting on Tuesday, at the Cotroceni Palace, to evaluate and present the measures related to the management of the COVID-19 epidemic.

In the last 24 hours, the SARS-CoV-2 infection killed 130 Romanians. Since the start of the pandemic, however, 8,000 have already been collected.

More than 1,000 families have a closed boarding school in an intensive care unit. In hospitals, the number of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 is close to 13,000.

Six Covid-19 patients from Timiş have died in the last 24 hours. They did not take place at ATI

From now on, all Romanians must wear a mask, anywhere outside their own home. There are also signs in hospitals that the medical system is beginning to fail.

6 patients from Timiş died, because places for intensive therapy were not found in time, and for them. In fact, Dr. Vigil Musta from Timişoara clearly tells us that, for now, the solution to get out of this crisis is … not to get sick.
