The school has moved online, but children and parents must understand that this is the new normal, and the school remains a school even under these conditions, it is the urgency of Professor Silvia Mușătoiu, former director of Șincai College.
Starting Monday, all schools, both state and private, will be closed nationwide, as well as kindergartens.
However, all the nurseries remain open, but also those educational centers where various activities or courses for children are carried out, we all know them as extracurricular.
Schools will be closed for a month, from November 9 to December 7.
Math teacher Silvia Mușătoiu, former head of Gheorghe Șincai College in Bucharest, spoke on the “Viitor cu clasă” program about the advantages and disadvantages of hybrid scenarios and how students and parents should look at the new normal.
“We have been on this red stage for a month, then for 6 weeks we worked on an orange stage, a hybrid mix with the red stage. We have been online for a while, the difference is between the hybrid scenario and the red scenario, each one has its advantages and disadvantages“Said the teacher Mușătoiu for the correspondent Roxana Hulpe.
“For the hybrid, the advantage is that it is a little “green”, which means that we have some children in the class, half of the class reaches school. Having them in class and seeing their eyes adjust your lesson, it’s a little more active. The online advantage is that we all have them in the same place“Explained the professor.
When asked what it means to have a month out of school, a month of online hours for 8th grade students, who will have the National Assessment, but also for high school students who will have the Baccalaureate exam, teacher Mușătoiu said: “We should not consider this online school as a pause. It is the school that is done like this at the moment because it is possible, it is normal in this situation”.
“Both children and parents need to understand that online education is a school after all. We are not on vacation and those activities that you started doing much more than last spring are your opportunities to prepare, along with your desire to progress each day.“Said the former principal of Șincai College.
According to her, school is not a place for children to become infected.
“Everyone wants to go to school in the conditions in which we knew them, to be in school all, both teachers and students. However, there are also teachers who think that this red scenario benefits us, because we must all stay healthy. I, in the 6 weeks of hybrid education, I deduced that school is not a place where children are infected. The three confirmed cases at Șincai College were relatives“Silvia Mușătoiu said.
Parents, divided into two camps on school closings
Correspondent Roxana Hulpe presented a survey conducted by the Federation of Parents in Romania, with responses from more than 95,000 parents on how to take the courses during this period.
Thus, 45.2% said yes, that it is a good decision to close schools and connect when the incidence of cases exceeds 3/1000, while 47.2% said that it is not a good decision. There are basically two big camps.
“I wonder how many of the parents have the data to say this is better or not so good, that’s what I think of them. They certainly responded based on personal experiences, he certainly thought it would be best for him.“Master Mu elătoiu said.
On the other hand, when asked if they trust the school to comply with the rules to prevent the spread of Covid-19, parents said yes in a very high percentage, more than 68%.
“This means that parents have also discovered that school does not make their children sick.“Said the teacher.
But another question gave an unexpected result. So when asked what I think the authorities’ approach should be in areas where the incidence of cases exceeds 3/1000 inhabitants, the majority of parents, 31.7%, said that schools should operate in the scenario 3, that is, in red writing.
Matematrix.ro, a platform with free math lessons for students and teachers
When asked if this school year is a commitment for students, teacher Silvia Mușătoiu said that “This temporary state worries each of us, the world wants to know in a longer period of time what will happen. In this situation, however, no one knows what will happen.”.
Professor Silvia Mușătoiu also presented the free platform she works on, a platform that will soon be available to all students and teachers in the country, matematrix.ro.
It will contain well-done math lessons for all middle and high school classes.
“Someone made the mistake of putting the equal sign between digitization and the educational act in the pandemic period. It is not enough to have equipment in a pandemic, we must have lessons, which children follow and learn. The hardest part of education is evaluation. This platform has been helpful since the spring, but efforts have focused in other directions.“Explained Professor Silvia Mușătoiu.
