Daniel Gheorghe Popa was born on June 26, 1963 in Calarasi. Since 2016 he has been the head of the Constanţa County Emergency Situation Inspectorate “Dobrogea”.

Prior to this position, he was Chief Inspector II at the “Barbu Ştirbei” Emergency Situation Inspectorate of Călăraşi County.

Colonel Popa had a master’s degree in “International and Community Law”, obtained at the “Nicolae Titulescu” University of Bucharest – Faculty of Law.

Between 1993-1998 he studied law at the University of Bucharest. He graduated from the Military School for Active Officers of the Ministry of the Interior, Arma Pompieri in 1985.

Within ISU Dobrogea there are several cases of soldiers infected with SARSCoV-2. “The Constance County Dobrogea Emergency Situations Inspectorate is one of the institutions that locally provides the first line in the fight against the Covid-19 virus. In that context, 10 Inspectorate officials, including the chief inspector, entered in contact with this virus and medical measures were ordered for each one. The operational capacity was not affected by the confirmed cases, the inspection activity is still carried out in the optimal parameters of response in case of emergencies “, said ISU Dobrogea.

He had been doing the same job for 30 years.

Gheorghe Popa from Calarasi died in a hospital bed, after becoming infected with COVID-19. To save him, the doctor tried his best, but the virus wreaked havoc on the body. Colonel Popa was initially hospitalized in the Constanza hospital, but his condition worsened. He was transported by helicopter to the Matei Balş Institute for Infectious Diseases in the capital, but his life could not be saved. Colonel Gheorghe Popa, who was to be promoted to the rank of general in December, died on Wednesday morning, November 4. He had turned 57 in June.

After 12 years in which he was in charge of ISU Călăraşi, in the summer of 2016, col. Daniel Gheorghe Popa was assigned to command the unit at ISU Dobrogea. Daniel Gheorghe Popa has been the commander of the Călăraşi Fire Brigade since 2001, and since 2004 has served as Chief Inspector of the Călăraşi County Emergency Situations Inspectorate “Barbu Ştirbei”.

With more than 30 years of experience in the Ministry of the Interior, Daniel Gheprghe Popa is a graduate of the School of Active Officers of the Ministry of the Interior (class of 1985, “Firefighters” weapon) and of the Faculty of Law of the University of Bucharest (nineteen ninety six).

On his profession, col. Daniel Gheorghe Popa said that his first love is and will remain so forever. “This work has a deep humanitarian character because we save people’s lives. It’s what I know how to do, I’ve only been doing it for 30 years. I don’t necessarily command, but only firefighters and only in Calarasi. It is a profession that she loves. I liked it and even if I had the chance to change it, I didn’t want to do it, “said Col. Popa in an interview for the local press in Călăraşi in 2015. In familiar terms, col. Popa was an accomplished man. He has been married to the same woman for over three decades and they have a child together.
