The Health Minister gave an interview to Digi24 journalist Carla Tănasie. Nelu Tătaru says that Infectious Diseases hospitals have the necessary equipment to differentiate flu from COVID, and with regard to possible holiday restrictions, how they will be carried out depends only on people’s behavior.
The official also explained to Digi 24 the order in which emergency units are obliged to receive all patients. The Health Minister says they walked too much by ambulance between hospitals.
– Is there any test that can differentiate flu from Covid?
Yes! At this time we also have these devices, we had discussions with the infectious diseases departments for the purchase of tests and devices that detect flu and covid at the same time, in order to be able to direct these patients to the treatment areas separately.
– If you now have a patient with the flu, does the doctor see if it is flu or covid?
It exists in our dialogue strategy and the evaluation of the triad will be based on this principle and protocol. As you know, lately, after the SARS-CoV-2 infections, there were crowds in the UPU, so the ambulances were waiting or were being directed to the Emergency Reception Units. I follow the principle that every patient has the right to at least one triage. The moment we decide to enter that UPU is to do at least a minimal evaluation, covid or something else. We follow that barometer of presence in the UPU, so that we do not load that quick test, evaluation and go to a covid hospital or the others. But every patient should have the right to a consultation, not to be taken by an ambulance. I will advocate for a patient not to stay in an ambulance, but to stay at the UPU for 2-3 hours to be evaluated and then guided according to their condition.
– What do we do for the holidays?
Everyone should wonder what we will do today, tomorrow, in the next few weeks. The holidays depend on that. We continue with that local assessment and local restrictions, if these are resolved we will control the situation, we have coercive measures, legislation, I believe that things should go a normal path, each of us has our component in this fight, only together we achieve it. The medical system will receive them, but we are tired, exhausted. We are after 8 months. I believe that the population is the secret and the essence of this pandemic
“What if people don’t understand?”
We have legislation that needs to be enforced, but I don’t think we should become a police state. And I think doctors and politicians should do medicine to wait a little longer.
“And are you waiting because the campaign is coming?”
We are many politicians, but many of us have chosen to remain professionals, we will continue to be professionals until this pandemic calms down, I hope that with the passage of this camopania we will enter a normal path.
– Do you expect it to be an increase after the campaign?
In our evolution and the European one we will have an increase, but an increase with a small number of cases to be able to handle, a doctor who does not remain in 7 – 8 patients, who stays in 2 and then I think we can see that we manage in a different and the medical perspective is different.
