President Klaus Iohannis no longer firmly rules out the possibility of a return to the state of emergency.
“It just came to our attention then. (…) We don’t want a supposed blockade.” President Klaus Iohannis said a week ago about the new restrictions. At the same press conference, regarding the winter holidays, the president stated: “And I believe that this year we will return to what the Christmas holidays mean. It is a celebration in and with the family. “Statements by government officials and front-line experts supplemented the president’s statement on Christmas, implying that this year Romanians will spend it at home with their families. Legally, this restriction, that is expected to be traffic, it is only possible in a state of emergency, not by decision of the government, since decisions are being taken now. See more here
In this context, clarified for DCNews and by former CCR president Augustin Zegrean (see link above), I also noticed a change in the president’s speech regarding the return to the state of emergency. The President does not seem to firmly exclude this option, but refers only to the present tense in the answers given, being more reserved. This is one month before the parliamentary elections on December 6. The aspect is extremely important in the context in which perhaps the most widespread opinion in the country is that after the December 6 elections, the quarantine will be decided in Romania.
“We do not have now reasons to impose a state of emergency and, obviously, at the same time, we have every reason to introduce restrictions to mitigate the spread of the pandemic. ”“ What I can tell you: that evolution is fluid, it’s hard to predict what will happen in a week or two – but now the current measures and restrictions have been discussed with experts. Y, at this timeExperts do not see the need to return to the state of emergency, but, in the state of alert, gradual measures should be taken to prevent the disease, but at the same time allow the continuation of economic processes and the functioning of society, obviously in pandemic conditions. These are today’s president’s statements on the state of emergency in Romania.
