Vienna police confirmed in a statement on Twitter that several shots were fired from six different locations, starting at 8:00 p.m. Several armed suspects are behind the attacks. One person was killed, a police officer was seriously injured and one of the suspects was killed by the police as a result of the exchange of gunfire.

Authorities said 15 people were injured, 7 of them in serious condition, according to local television stations. Police cars mainly patrol in Sector 11 of the Austrian capital.

UPDATE Shots were also fired inside the Hilton Hotel. Hostages were also taken from two other locations in the city center.
