A magnitude 3.5 earthquake occurred Sunday morning at 2:36 a.m. local time in the Vrancea Seismic Area, Vrancea County, announced the National Institute for Research and Development of Earth Physics (INCDFP). After more than two hours, a second earthquake of magnitude 2.3 was recorded in the same area.
The earthquake occurred at a depth of 144 kilometers, according to INCDFP data.
The earthquake took place near the following cities: 73 km east of Brasov, 78 km northeast of Ploiesti, 107 km south of Bacau, 119 km west of Galati, 119 km west of Braila and 138 km north of Bucharest.
Two hours later (4:51), also in the Vrancea seismic zone, another earthquake of magnitude 2.3 occurred, at a depth of 91 km.
The earthquake occurred near the following cities: 85 km E of Brasov, 89 km S of Bacau, 105 km NE of Ploiesti, 112 km W of Galati, 115 km NW of Braila, 156 km N of Bucharest , 169 km SW of Iasi, 176 km NE of Pitesti, 197 km E of Sibiu, 215 km southwest of Chisinau.
The strongest earthquake this year occurred on January 31, in Vrancea County, at a depth of 121 kilometers, and had a magnitude of 5.2 on the Richter scale. The earthquake was also felt in Bucharest.
