One of the most worrying findings of infectious people in Iași, eight months after fighting the new virus, is that COVID-19 patients are finding it increasingly difficult to heal.

Carmen Dorobăț, director of the Hospital for Infectious Diseases of Iași, says that most of the symptomatic patients seen in the spring in Ia, i overcame the disease in 14-21 days, being discharged with two negative tests every 24 hours. They currently outgrow the infection and test negative on average in 4-6 weeks, and their symptoms are much more difficult.

Basically, the moment the patient says “I feel perfect, I no longer have any problems” appears much later in the course of the disease. This infection brings us surprises at all times, and the surprises are related to changes in the clinical picture.

Carmen Dorobăț, Director of the Iași Hospital for Infectious Diseases:

“In the past, patients complained that they no longer had taste or smell. Now, the lack of taste and smell appears later during the disease, at 7 or 10 days of evolution,” he added.

Muscle aches occur more often than fever

In addition, the initial signs of the disease are no longer necessarily respiratory, but above all digestive, in many cases similar to those given by biliary problems. This summer, however, digestive symptoms in the case of coronavirus infection were more reported in children.

“Currently, a growing number of people present digestive phenomena, especially a clinical resonance similar to that of the gallbladder. I also noticed that these digestive phenomena were reported especially in women ”, says Dr. Carmen Dorobăț.

Another trend that Iasi infectionists have noticed in their patients is related to the onset of fever.

“Before it was clear that there was a high fever, 39, even 40 degrees, then a procession of respiratory phenomena with or without muscle pain. Now, in many patients this fever does not even appear, but muscle aches appear ”, the doctor also explained.

The infectious disease specialist recommends that stay-at-home patients with mild forms of COVID be alert to any changes in symptoms, especially the onset of muscle pain, because these changes can lead to an unfavorable course of the disease: the transition from mild to severe.

According to data provided by the County Public Health Directorate, since the start of the pandemic, 10,789 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Iasi County, of which 208 were announced today. Iasi has registered 11 deaths in the last 24 hours, a record since the beginning of the pandemic, the total death toll is 231.
