A Tunisian wanted by France for “a serious crime” was arrested in Bulgaria on Friday, the Bulgarian Prosecutor’s Office announced on Saturday, reports AFP, taken over by Agerpres.
The man passed the border point of Kardam (northeast) on the border with Romania (Negru Vodă), forcing the barrier of police control.
“We have information indicating that his Tunisian passport issued in Switzerland is false and that he does not have documents that allow him to travel in EU territory,” said regional prosecutor Iordanka Ceaneva.
The Tunisian was arrested just 30 km from the border post, in the Dobrich region, after colliding with a police car. The suspect was charged with crossing the border without permission and with vandalism.
The prosecutor did not specify the nature of the crime for which the man is wanted in France. According to the head of the regional prosecutor’s office, Radoslav Buhcev, “there is no data at this time” to indicate that the man arrested in Bulgaria is linked to Thursday’s attack in Nice, where a Tunisian, Brahim Issaoui, killed three people in a church. .
“We are waiting to receive his European arrest warrant through Interpol so that we can provide more information,” Ceaneva said.
