This is the Identity Movement, a well-known anti-Muslim group with members throughout Europe.

He also has a youth faction called Generation Identity.

A local police spokesman corrected initial reports in the French press that the man shouted “Allah Akbar”: “It has nothing to do with Islam, it does not shout religious slogans.” The man’s identity has been confirmed and he is a member of the Identity Movement ”.

He did the Nazi salute before the police shot him, wearing a group T-shirt and a membership card.

Local Avignon judicial authorities have ruled out an Islamist motivation in the 33-year-old’s case, reports AFP.

“We excluded the Islamist route. The man was being psychiatrically monitored and made inconsistent statements,” the Avignon prosecutor’s office told AFP.

Police intervened shortly after 10:00 a.m. local time (09:00 GMT), after a passerby reported that a man armed with a pistol was threatening people. “The man quickly approached them with his gun and was killed by the police,” said a spokesman for the Avignon police.

The Identariana movement has been involved in campaigns against refugees in Europe, in protests where Islamic beheadings of Europeans are carried out to illustrate the danger posed by migrants.

Another incident on Thursday took place in Saudi Arabia, at the French consulate in Jeddah, where a man attacked a security guard with a knife.

The author of the attack in Nice, identified as Brahim Aoussaoui, a 21-year-old Tunisian, arrived in France on October 9 from the island of Lampedusa (Italy). He arrived in Nice by train the morning of the attack and killed a parishioner and two parishioners. One of the women was a 44-year-old Brazilian, mother of three children.

The Tunisian repeated “Allah Akbar” several times when he was handcuffed and given medical attention after the police shot him.
