Spain remains in a state of emergency for another six months, until May 9, 2021. The Spanish Parliament has approved the measure requested by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, which will allow the Government of Madrid to impose new restrictions on traffic whenever it considers it necessary. .
In its turn, the autonomous communities, which have competences in public health matters, can now decide to close their territory to limit traffic in certain areas.
The measure is valid for the entire territory of Spain and implies, for example, Traffic restrictions at night, between 23:00 and 6:00, it is forbidden to travel between autonomous communities, except for essential reasons – health, family, work.
Too, meetings, public gatherings are restricted, precisely because these are situations that lead to the uncontrolled spread of the coronavirus.
Five days ago, the government headed by Pedro Sánchez decided to return to this exceptional measure, due to the explosive increase in coronavirus cases.
According to the government’s decision, the state of emergency was to be established first for 15 days, but the Madrid government requested Parliament’s approval for a six-month extension, until April 2021.
This is because the first time that Spain was in a state of emergency it was necessary to extend it every two weeks, which made things very complicated. Therefore, the Spanish government wanted to stop hitting this problem.
Spain continues to be the European state most affected by the coronavirus, with a total of 1,230,000 cases.
