The author of the terrorist attack in Nice is a 21-year-old young man of Tunisian origin, who speaks French, but without documents and without a telephone, the French press writes. He claims that his name is Brahim and has admitted his actions.

After being shot by the police at Notre Dame Cathedral, he was rushed to hospital, but according to police reports, he did not stop repeating the “Allah Akbar” incantation all the time.

The French press writes that the attack occurred after the inauguration of the cathedral, at 8:30 in the morning. The young man entered the church with a bag full of knives and attacked three people, who died: a 70-year-old woman was beheaded, a 45-year-old man, a church employee, whose throat was cut off, and a 30-year-old woman who was stabbed multiple times and died of her injuries in a bar near the church.

Nice police entered the cathedral a few minutes after the attack and opened fire on the attacker. The special troops found a second bag of knives and other weapons packages inside.

France raises security alert for ’emergency attack’

France has raised the security alert level for the entire territory to the highest “emergency attack” after the attack in Nice, Prime Minister Jean Castex announced on Thursday, reports AFP, EFE and Reuters.

The level of “emergency bombing” is the highest in France’s counterterrorism plan. It is instituted immediately after an attack or if an identified and unlocated terrorist group takes action.

This level is set for a limited period of time during crisis management. The level of “emergency attack” makes it possible, in particular, to guarantee the exceptional mobilization of the means of response, but also the dissemination of information that can protect citizens in a crisis situation.

Jean Castex denounced an “attack as cowardly as it was barbarous, which cries for the whole country”, believing that it “deliberately and unconditionally hit the Catholic community.” Prime Minister Jean Castex also told the National Assembly that the government’s response to the attack would be firm and relentless.
