Klaus Iohannis reiterated at a press conference on Wednesday that a new total quarantine is not required at this time, as it was in the spring. At the same time, the president said that, at this time, we should not look for culprits, but solutions to prevent the spread of the disease.
„We hear from the newsletters that our pandemic is spreading, but things have actually been handled well so far. The states you speak of have a much larger number of cases than we do, even relative to population. Drastic measures have been taken in some European countries. We don’t want this, that’s why I always tell the authorities and the population to fight effectively against the spread of this epidemic. (…) We do not want a supposed blockade. For now, the institution does not make us think of a quarantine or a lockdown, “said Klaus Iohannis, asked if Romanians should expect new restrictions, given the large increase in the number of new cases of COVID-19.
Regarding the statements made to the Ombudsman’s Office, when Romania was registering about a thousand cases a day, and now that there are more than 5,000 cases a day, the president was asked who is to blame.
“As for the situation at Unifarm, those ventilators certainly need to be put into circulation and used where they are needed. I am convinced this will happen in the near future. Regarding the number of patients, we are in a pandemic and what has been done has been done. It could have been done. I don’t think we have to look for culprits now, we have to find solutions to prevent the uncontrolled spread of the disease in the population, “replied Iohannis.
„Certainly it is desirable to have the same data for all institutions. The data shows large fluctuations from day to day. The pandemic is not mathematically propagated. To spread more or less, we expect less. We know that the number of tests is different from day to day. The weekend is less, from there other fluctuations appear. What worries me is the number of hospitalizations in ATI and, sadly, the number of deaths. We are facing a challenge both in the area of prevention and in the hospital area, ”the head of state also said.
