If US President Donald Trump tried to be re-elected in a European Union country, he would have almost no chance, according to a poll released Wednesday by researchers in Germany. The Democratic candidate for the White House, Joe Biden, would gather in the European states around 45% of the votes, the study shows, according to Agerpres.
According to a study by the Bertelsmann Foundation, around 38% of EU citizens would not vote for either of the two US candidates if they had that right.
The results differ from country to country. Poland is the only one in which Trump would have voted for more voters than Biden: the two would get 38% and 30% respectively.
Poles want a closer relationship with Americans for historical reasons, says study author Isabell Hoffmann. About 77% of Poles believe that democracy in the United States works well, while 51% of all Europeans surveyed say it has failed.
However, the United States is much better qualified as a partner than China, according to the survey.
“Four years of the Trump administration have left their mark on the citizens of the EU. They recognize the importance of the transatlantic relationship, but they are steadfast in appreciating what it maintains,” Hoffmann said.
The survey was conducted between July 9 and September 28, on a sample of 13,808 people from all the Member States of the European Union, and has a margin of error of +/- 1%.
