Prime Minister Ludovic Orban said in Paris on Monday that he assured his French counterpart Jean Castex of Romania’s compassion and solidarity following the murder of Professor Samuel Paty by a terrorist. He said attacks on people, such as the one launched by Turkish leader Recep Erdogan against French President Emmanuel Macron, were not acceptable and moments of crisis must be overcome through dialogue.
“I wish my counterpart success. We assure Prime Minister Castex of our compassion and solidarity after the murder of Professor Samuel Paty by a terrorist. Romania and France are united.
We convey our solidarity with France in respect of our fundamental values and the importance of a space in which freedom of expression and conscience are protected from violence and censorship. Attacks on a person targeting a head of state as a personal target, such as the one recently suffered by President Emmanuel Macron, are not acceptable, in our view. Mutual respect between partners and allies is essential and differences in approach or moments of crisis must be overcome through constructive dialogue and mutual respect, ”said Ludovic Orban in his speech, received by the Prime Minister of France.
Ludovic Orban also announced the signing of a roadmap to “further strengthen relations” between Romania and France.
“It is an extremely important visit in a symbolic year, in which we celebrate 140 years of diplomatic relations. Our countries are linked by a strategic partnership, and the common desire is to make this partnership even more strategic. That is why we have signed a new roadmap, an updated and ambitious structure, which aims to further strengthen relations between France and Romania, both at the bilateral level and at the European and international level ”, he said.
Orban said on Monday that the main objective of his two-day official visit to France is to sign the Roadmap of the Strategic Partnership between the two countries, which establishes the main coordinates of the collaboration for the next 4 years.
Diplomatic tensions between Paris and Ankara took a new turn when the French president called him to the country for consultations with the Turkish ambassador.
Emmanuel Macron made the decision a few hours after Recep Erdogan questioned the mental health of the Elysee leader.
“Macron needs treatment for mental health disorders. What else can you say about a head of state who does not understand freedom of faith and who behaves in this way when it comes to the millions of people who live in his country and Who are of another religion? First, you need a medical check-up. You (Macron, ed.) Always attack Erdogan. Attacking Erdogan will not help. Anyway, in a year there are elections, we will see then what fate you will have. I don’t think that have such a long way to go. Why do I say that? Because it did nothing to get France re-elected, “said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
