On Monday morning there was an explosion in a block of flats at Aleea Podul Giurgiului in Bucharest. One person died and firefighters evacuated dozens more.

UPDATE 8.20. The fire went out.

Firefighters say the intervention was difficult, as the elder of the department where the explosion occurred had collected a large amount of debris: wood, paper, plastic, garbage.

The possible cause of the explosion is, from the first investigations, the accumulation of gases in the house.

According to ISU Bucharest-Ilfov, firefighters intervened on Monday morning after an explosion in an apartment, followed by a fire, on the seventh floor of a building in Aleea Podul Giurgiului.

The apartment owner was found dead and smoke from the fire entered neighboring apartments, prompting firefighters to evacuate 18 residents from the lower floors.

Another 30 residents left the block after the explosion. According to firefighters, a man with locomotor problems was exposed to the smoke and was taken to hospital.

Four fire trucks and SMURD intervened in the act.

From the first data from the fire department, seven apartments are damaged.
