The Australian government has demanded an explanation from the Qatari authorities after 13 women were humiliated at Doha’s Hamad airport, according to the Daily Mail.
“We have officially registered the complaint about the incident in Qatar and have been assured that we will receive detailed and transparent information soon,” the Australian Foreign Office said.
Thirteen Australian women were forcibly undressed and thoroughly searched at the Doha airport last month after airport officials found a premature baby and abandoned it in a plane bathroom.
The 13 passengers were subsequently ordered not to take the flight to Sydney, but to board an ambulance parked at the airport, so they could undress and check themselves.
The women said the exam was humiliating and violated human rights. Therefore, they filed a complaint after returning to Australia.
The Australian government does not have the authority to investigate the incident, but the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs is working with the Qatari government to resolve the issue.
