The decision of the NLP is all the more surprising since Alin Nica has a very good relationship with the leaders of the USR-PLUS Alliance in Timisoara. According to the cited sources, Alin Nica “changed his mind” by the central leadership of the party, amid tensions between the PNL and the USR over the appointment of Florin Iordache as head of the Legislative Council.
There will be 37 members on the Timiş County Council, including the president: 16 from NLP; 10 of the USR-PLUS; 7 from PSD-PPUSL and 3 from Pro Romania. Therefore, PNL and PSD could form a slight majority in Timiş City Council.
On the Local Council, the USR-PLUS Alliance will have 13 terms in Timisoara. PNL has 9 terms, PSD-PPUSL – 3 and Pro Romania – 2. Theoretically, the Liberals could obtain a majority in the Local Council together with PSD. Timisoara City Council was won by USR PLUS candidate Dominic Fritz, to the detriment of liberal Nicolae Robu.
