Europe’s rarest and rough fish, a living fossil, has reappeared in the Vâlsan River in Argeș county, announced climber Alex Glăvan, who has campaigned to save the species in the past.

“Dear friends, this morning gave us one of the most wonderful news. It is related to our brother and national fish, the rough – Romanichthys valsanicola, a living fossil species, 65 million years old and contemporary with the last dinosaurs that walked on the planet’s surface. The rarest fish in Europe and, by some estimates, even in the world, the hardness is revealed to people in the first video images after many years of uncertainty, ”Glăvan wrote on Facebook on Wednesday.

“It was identified around 8 o’clock, in the Brădetu village area, by my colleagues and friends of the rough rescue team, the ichthyologists Andrei Togor and Marcus Drimbea (representing our partners of the Aqua Crisus Association), during a scientific fishing training session that analyzes the impact of hydrotechnical arrangements at the ichthyofauna level in the Vâlsan valley ”, he added.
