The Liberals appointed Augustin Zegrean, former president of the Romanian Constitutional Court, to head the Legislative Council.

The Legislative Council approves all bills submitted to Parliament before entering the two-house debate. The incumbents of the Legislative Council are appointed by the vote of the senators and deputies, but the law does not establish a term limit or a procedure by which they can be revoked, which means that they could serve for life.

According to the official announcement, there are three nominations for the leadership of the Legislative Council: Florin Iordache (from PSD), Ionut Duli Mazalu (current secretary of the legislative council) and Augustin Zegrean (proposal supported by PNL).

Dragos Iliescu, a 77-year-old former president of the institution, has been in charge of the Legislative Council for a quarter of a century, according to Digi 24. First, in 1995, Dragos Iliescu was appointed by Parliament to head a section of the Council. Eight years later, in 2003, he assumed the presidency of the institution. He left office this summer.
