President Klaus Iohannis harshly criticized the capital’s prefect, Gheorghe Cojanu, for the way he handled the situation in Bucharest, which exceeded the contagion rate of 3% per thousand inhabitants and enters the red stage.
He pointed out at a press conference that the Government has prepared measures for all scenarios, but that it is the local authorities who must implement them.
“It is incomprehensible that, although we saw a significant increase in the number of contagion cases every day, and it was obvious that this trend will continue, at the Capital level there was no coherent plan, communicated in clear terms, so that the population Be prepared and know what to expect. The attitude of the Prefect of the Capital and the way he reacted are unacceptable and should not be left without consequences, ”said Iohannis.
Asked whether the prefect should be fired or resign, Iohannis replied: “This remains to be seen in detail, but things cannot continue like this, people have the right to feel overwhelmed, to prepare.”
