President Klaus Iohannis will hold a press conference at the Cotroceni Palace on Monday at 6:00 p.m., the Presidential Administration announced.

The main statements of President Klaus Iohannis

– The current epidemiological situation: unfortunately, as is the case in all parts of Europe, we are facing a large increase in cases.

– Equity exceeded the 3 per thousand index. Once this threshold is exceeded, new restrictive measures, which reduces the number of infections.

– Local authorities are responsible for implementing the restrictions.

– It is incomprehensible, although we have seen a daily increase in cases of infection, at the Capital level there was no coherent plan, so people know what to expect.

The attitude of the prefect and how he reacted is incomprehensible and they won’t be without consequences.

– A national effort is needed. Citizens are the partners of the authorities. This means clear and uniform communication of decisions. Predictability when restrictions are needed that affect the lives of citizens.

“We have been fighting for our health for so many months.” In spring we managed to massively reduce the infection curve. I am convinced that we can do this together again.

– These measures decided at the level of Bucharest are necessary.

– Parliamentary elections were established by law and will take place in december.

Related to the Prefect of the Capital: It remains to be seen (whether it will be a resignation or a layoff, ed.), But things will not stay that way. People have the right to be warned, to be taken seriously, to receive all the details to prepare. I don’t think parents who have kids in school are happy to know that they won’t be taking their kids to school on Tuesday.

– In most schools things are orderly, well planned, but there are exceptions and they must be corrected.

– I think the Romanian doctors are very good and so far they have dealt with the situation very well.

– The measures taken so far related to the use of masks in public spaces have so far been taken on the recommendation of specialists in the field.

About students who do not have access to online school: I do not think that we should look for guilty, but look for solutions. We are talking about a catastrophe here, not some administrative details. Solutions are sought for those children who do not have internet access, for each case. By the end of the school year, we hope that all students have access to the Internet and discover that the pandemic is a thing of the past.

– Parties, especially weddings, baptisms, where the measures were not followed, contributed significantly to the spread of the disease.

The initial news

The president’s statement took place in the context in which Bucharest enters the red scenario after, for the first time since the start of the health crisis, the threshold of 3 COVID cases per thousand inhabitants was exceeded.

As a result, schools, restaurants, theaters and cinemas will be closed. And the mask becomes mandatory everywhere, even in open public spaces.

All decisions were made at the meeting of the Municipal Committee for Emergency Situations (CMSU), which took place on Monday at 3:00 p.m.

The school restrictions will be in place for the next two weeks, Prime Minister Ludovic Orban said, although the incidence rate will drop in the meantime.

Since there are no more vacancies in the medical units for the infected, the Colentina hospital in the Capital will become a COVID hospital.

Balance Sheet October 19. 2,466 new cases, with only 8,040 tests performed

By Monday, 182,854 cases of people infected with the new coronavirus were confirmed in Romania.

After the tests carried out at the national level, compared to the last report, 2,466 new cases of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 were registered, cases that had not previously had a positive test.

Thus, almost a third (30.6%) of the tests carried out in the last 24 hours were positive.
