Pay attention to the protective masks you wear during this period of the coronavirus pandemic. Not everything on the market prevents the germ from spreading. The announcement was made by officials from the National Consumer Protection Authority. The ANPC received, through the RAPEX system, three alerts of non-compliant masks on the market, issued by the authorities of Luxembourg, Italy and Latvia. The announcement was made on the Facebook account, Paul Anghel, general director of the institution.

“RAPEX alert issued by Luxembourg: the product bears the CE mark, but is not certified as protective equipment by the corresponding body. Therefore, it is possible that the product does not meet the health and safety requirements and is not properly protected if not combined with additional measures. It does not comply with the regulations on personal protective equipment, “announced Paul Anghel.

What are the nerve points

The alert issued in Italy refers to a protective mask with insufficient retention of particles. An excessive amount of particles or microorganisms can pass through the mask, increasing the risk of infection if not combined with additional protective measures.

The alert issued by Latvia states that the non-conforming product promotes a protection potential against viral particles, but its filtering capacity has not been certified by a relevant European body.

Therefore, the product may not comply with health and safety requirements and therefore not be adequately protected if not combined with additional measures. The product does not comply with the Regulation on personal protective equipment and the relevant European standard EN 149.

The RAPEX system is a system for the rapid exchange of information on dangerous products between the European Commission and the Member States of the European Union.
