Prof. Dr. Alexandru Rafila explained this Thursday, in a press conference, that he participated in the protest in Victoriei Square in 2017 related to Ordinance 13 because he valued that certain things happened that were not correct from a political point of view.

“Intolerance can lead to an attack on democracy. And then certain things happened that, from a political point of view, were not correct and should be corrected. And, in the end, the protest in a large public market” People think that society does not tolerate such a slip. And I think that was the message, and I do not think it is a shame to make such a gesture. Very clearly affirmed and respected “, declared Rafila at the PSD headquarters, asked if he was at the Victoriei Square in 2017, but also on August 10, 2018.

He specified that he did not participate in the protest on August 10, 2018. Dr. Rafila will be a PSD candidate for the parliamentary elections on the list of the Chamber of Deputies, in Bucharest.

The Government adopted, on the night of January 31, 2017, through an Emergency Ordinance, the amendment of the penal codes, without the approval of the SCM. Five days later, on February 5, the Government repealed, by means of an Emergency Ordinance, GEO 13/2017.

At that time, massive protests were held that reached up to 600,000 participants across the country, with dissatisfied people even after the Executive repealed Ordinance 13 by GEO 14.

More than 500 people required medical attention on August 10, 2018, in the large anti-government protest, when police intervened to evacuate Victoria Square and almost 800 complaints against the Gendarmerie were filed with the Attorney General’s Office.
