On Thursday evening, October 15, 2020, Groupe Renault will present for the first time the series version of the Dacia Spring, the first fully electric car sold under the Romanian brand. The concept of this car was presented in March of this year.

The launch takes place 2 years after Renault introduced the K-ZE concept for emerging markets in Paris, this being the latest car presented by Carlos Ghosn as Chairman and CEO of the Renault Group. At the time, Ghosn stated that the market would decide if, how, when and under what brand K-ZE would arrive in Europe, when asked by ZF about the possibility of launching the crossover under the Dacia brand in Europe.

To do this, Renault organized the eWays event dedicated to electromobility, an event in which, in addition to the Dacia Spring, it arrives with Renault’s own electric crossover, on the CMF-EV platform with Arkana E-Tech Hybrid, a hybrid-powered SUV-coupe. , designed The European market.
The Dacia Spring will be officially introduced by Luca de Meo, the CEO of the Renault Group, who called Dacia “a miracle” during his visit this summer to Romania, the first outside of France since he took office.

Dacia Spring will be the most affordable electric car on the European market, priced below 20,000 euros, most likely 15-16 thousand euros.
The Renault City K-ZE, the electric model on which Dacia Spring is based, was launched on the Chinese market last year. It is produced by eGT New Energy Automotive, a joint venture owned by Nissan and Dongfeng of which Renault owns 25%. The same company will initially produce Dacia Spring. Last year, Renault Dongfeng announced that in China the company will only sell electric cars.

The Renault City K-ZE is a mini-class crossover, with a 26.8 kWh battery, which in China is priced at US $ 9,000 after deducting bonuses. Most likely, in Romania due to the bonus of 10,000 euros or at most 50% of the value of the car, Dacia Spring will come with a price of 7-8 thousand euros.

The European launch occurs since the electric car segment was the only one that grew in 2020, the year in which the pandemic swept at least 30% of the automotive market. In the first half of the year, around 220,000 electric cars were delivered to the European Union, 22% more than in the same period in 2019.
Given the 26.8 kWh battery, the car is most likely 170-200 km long, enough for the city or for a short long-distance trip. The car has 4 seats, a length of 3.73 m, compared to the 4.09 meters of the new Sandero.
