The Minister of Finance, Florin Cîțu, announced that the first report on the control carried out in the capital city council had been sent to the anti-corruption prosecutors.
“Let it be very clear to everyone: the first report completed in PMB has already been sent to DNA,” Cîțu wrote on Facebook.
In a press release issued today, Cîțu said that after the control carried out by the Ministry of Finance in the Capital City Hall, serious irregularities were identified. Florin Cîțu said it would be a damage of approximately 200 million lei, the equivalent of 40 million euros.
“I would like you to know the real situation of the finances of the Bucharest City Council, because we all live in this city and we want to know how the money was spent this year. First of all, some general information. The revenue of the Bucharest City Council in 2020 they are somewhere at 3.5 billion lei. This is the budget, 3.5 billion lei. The revenue in September is almost 99%. So, there was revenue in the Bucharest City Hall, “said Florin Cîţu .
He specified that he requested an inspection from all state institutions and that it will be carried out annually.
“From the first moment that I arrived at the Ministry of Finance, I asked for a statement on the controls of financial activity or the way in which public money was spent in state institutions. I demanded this for all institutions. Of course, the situation I received was far from rewarding. We found companies that did not have an analysis of the economic and financial situation carried out in the last 10 years. in the last 15 years. The economic inspection of the Ministry of Public Finance has bypassed many of these companies for years. Among them was of course the Bucharest City Council and then you should know that these checks were not carried out only at the Bucharest City Hall, they are carried out in various companies. I am in the Ministry of Transport, in the Ministry of Economy, there are town halls, other town halls in the country. I will do them all. These controls will be done in all public institutions and they will be done annually because, as I promised from day one in the Ministry of Public Finance, I am very interested in how public money is spent, ”he said.
In response, incumbent mayor Gabriela Firea says the allegations are unfounded and that the finance minister is campaigning.
“It just came to our knowledge then. He found nothing. A political check began in December of last year, the inspectors left the Ministry of Finance as they came and returned saying that if they do not write something they are going to fire them, they are elderly, they have less until retirement and it’s fear. So they locked themselves in the office and wrote. Nothing illegal, nothing that could make a mistake. They described some facts.
We have financial discipline in the mayor’s office, I don’t know if it’s the same in the government. Cîțu is on the campaign trail, he wants to be a senator, ”said Gabriela Firea.
