The director of the Târgu Mureş State Philharmonic, director Vasile Cazan, died at the age of 68.
He was hospitalized for several days in intensive care after infection with the new coronavirus, with pre-existing conditions, reports Agerpres.

Conductor Vasile Cazan was born in Târgu Mureş in 1952, studied violin, viola and piano at Târgu Mureş and graduated from the “Gheorghe Dima” Academy of Music in Cluj-Napoca, where he studied choral conducting with teachers Dorin Pop and Florentin. Mihăescu, later perfecting himself with the teacher Marin Constantin.
He attended orchestral conducting courses in New York, with conductor Laszlo Halasz of the Julliard Conservatory, who was assistant to conductors Arturo Toscanini and Bruno Walter at the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
Vasile Cazan was, since 1990, director of the Mixed Choir of the Târgu Mureş Philharmonic, and since 1998 he was also director of the Târgu Mureş State Philharmonic.
In 2012, the Institution of the Prefect – Mureş County awarded him the highest distinction in the county, “Fibula de la Suseni”, and in 2015, the Municipality of Târgu Mureş awarded him the distinction “Pro Cultura”.
