Mircea Lucescu’s impressive coaching career began in the late 1970s, at Corvinul Hunedoara. After preparing the Romania national team and Dinamo, “Il Luce” conquered Europe and worked with some of the best footballers in the world. The only contact he had with Romanian football was when he took over Rapid, the team with which he won the League 1 title.

Mircea Lucescu was not lucky in the draw. Ukraine’s runner-up was assigned to group G, along with Juventus, Barcelona and Ferencvaros. Thus, “Il Luce” will bring Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi to Ukraine, and Dynamo Kiev seems to be fighting only for third place with the Hungarians from Ferencvaros.
