The head of the Department of Emergency Situations (DSU), Raed Arafat, declared on Friday night, on Digi 24, regarding the message of the Patriarchate, which requested the reanalysis of the decision to ban the pilgrimage of Iași, that such a decision it would be politics.

The head of the Department of Emergency Situations (DSU), Raed Arafat, said late Friday that he avoided commenting on this issue. “Many have tried to use exactly the fact that Dr. Arafat is not part of our faith, it means that he has something to do with us, and this has been used in recent days. (…) It is not about disproportion, nor discrimination, nor desire to harm, it is about the field of public health ”, said Arafat, in Digi24.

He claims that during such a pilgrimage, such as that of the Holy Pious Parascheva, there is a high risk of infection.

“I explained the logic, there is a risk of infection on the way to and from there back, plus the time spent in the place, if there are a lot of people,” said the head of DSU.

When asked if the authorities could reconsider the decision, Raed Arafat said: “Only if the decision will be political, not technical. Not from a medical point of view, I know the opinion of my colleagues, we have no way to go back to such a decision. , which is taken in good faith and based on a very serious analysis, ”said Arafat.

The Romanian Patriarchate considers that banning the pilgrimage to Saint Parascheva for believers who do not live in Iasi is a “disproportionate and discriminatory measure”, according to a statement sent to the press on Friday. BOR officials hope that “the excessive measure to prohibit the pilgrimage from Iasi will be reviewed as soon as possible,” according to Mediafax.
