The leaders of Pro Romania and ALDE decided, on Thursday, to merge the two parties. In the parliamentary elections, the ALDE candidates will be on the Pro Romania list. The new party will be called Pro Rumania Social Liberal, announced Víctor Ponta. “We want to play the role of a compass. They are the only ones capable of making a real opposition,” declared ALDE president Călin Popescu Tăriceanu.

The two parties join forces, after the poor result of the local elections, where Pro Romania obtained slightly less than 5% and ALDE less than 3%. To enter Parliament, a party must cross the 5% threshold.

Călin Popescu Tăriceanu specified that in the parliamentary elections the members of ALDE will run on the Pro Romania list, because the merger will not be ready from a legal point of view. „The distribution on the list will be 60% – Pro Romania, 40% – ALDE. Víctor Ponta opens the list in the Bucharest Chamber of Deputies, I in the Senate ”, declared the president of the ALDE.

“We want to show them that they have an opponent. After the 90s, Romania went through two good periods, the period of the Nastase-Tariceanu and Ponta governments. Now we are in crisis again. If others do not have the courage to stop. the path to the abyss, we must. It is time to join forces to stop the current government and build an alternative. They are not enormous forces, but common experience allows us to speak and propose solutions and people, “said the president of Pro Romania, Victor Ponta.

Călin Popescu Tăriceanu also specified that through the merger, the two sides want to play the role of “political compass”.

“We want to play the role of a compass. We advocate for the principles and values in which we believe. We, from ALDE, for the liberal principles, those of Pro Romania for a coherent social policy. We saw that the PSD agreed with all the Government measures: the introduction of the state of emergency, the extension of the state of emergency, the introduction and extension of the state of alert, that is, those measures that violate rights and freedoms. We are the only ones capable of making a real opposition. We have a experience that we put ahead of ourselves, ”Tariceanu also said.
