War veteran Emil Vețeleanu (101) has died, the Vâlcea county council announced Wednesday. Emil Vețeleanu is Vâlcea’s oldest war veteran and the last Romanian survivor of the World War II Battle of Cotul Donului, in which some 150,000 Romanian soldiers were killed. He participated for 5 years at the front and even survived typhoid fever. In 2019, they went through social networks with images that disgusted Internet users: during the National Day festivities, the war veteran was completely ignored by the authorities.
- “I remember a lot about the war. I remember my former comrades. I was impressed by the terrible frost in Russia. I have seen a lot, I have seen people die. I saw stations being bombarded with people in them. Now the army is no longer compulsory. No it is good. It was a holy army, it disciplined the youth. Without an army, it is not good. How long was it there for a year… “said Emil Vețeleanu in an interview.
The veteran wanted Romania to live for at least ten years as a kingdom.
- “What do I want at 100, what do I want for Romania? Stay in the Kingdom for at least another ten years. There is a big difference… Unfortunately there are no statesmen now like then. We no longer have a Titulescu or Brătianu. Now, private studies are being done for money, “said Emil Vețeleanu.

He sat among our heroes in heaven, heroes who contributed to what the country is today, in the ancestral land.
