Nagorno-Karabakh conflict: Armenia denounces “violent fighting” and initiation of the Azeri offensive

The Nagorno-Karabakh army “managed to stop the widespread enemy attack,” ministry spokesman Chuchan Stepanian said on the Facebook page, adding that “violent clashes” had occurred in many parts of the front.

In one sector on the front line, “our forces fought back,” Stepanian said.

Serious clashes took place on Saturday, for the seventh day in a row, with the separatist Aramaic region, which has the political, economic and military support of Armenia against Azerbaijan.

Since the start of hostilities on Sunday, only partial reports have been reported, with a total of 191 dead: 158 Karabakh soldiers, 14 Armenian civilians and 19 Azerbaijani civilians. Baku reported no losses.

The Nagorno-Karabakh region, inhabited mainly by Armenians, separated from Azerbaijan, sparking a war that killed 30,000 people in the early 1990s. Since then, the front has been almost frozen despite regular attacks, no peace treaty has been signed.
