The newly elected mayor of Timisoara, Dominic Fritz, was asked, in the Digi24 “In Front of You” interview, about a possible future candidacy for the office of President of Romania. He said he didn’t rule out anything.
Claudiu Pândaru, Digi24 journalist: Since you understand Romanian very well, I have no doubt that you will understand the following question very well. Many have asked you after Sunday’s victory if you are not thinking in the near, distant future, once you take citizenship and reproduce the success of another German ethnic group in the presidency.
Dominic Fritz, the elected mayor of Timisoara: “There were some, I don’t know how many, who beat me like you beat me”.
Claudiu Pândaru, Digi24 journalist: I do not urge you, I ask you.
Dominic Fritz, the elected mayor of Timisoara: „I do not avoid the answer, but I am not a mayor, nor could I show that my energy and my optimism will pay off, so it seems to me totally that this is not the time to think about such a thing. I don’t have a plan to pursue a political career, beyond what I want to do now in Timisoara.”.
Claudiu Pândaru, Digi24 journalist: But don’t rule it out either.
Dominic Fritz, the elected mayor of Timisoara: „I don’t rule out anything in my life and so far I’ve been fine. If you had asked me 3 years ago if I would run for the Timișoara City Council, I would have said no, that my priority is to do the work that I am doing now, but I did not rule it out either. That doesn’t mean I’m thinking about it”.
