Alarm in Europe, including Romania. After the outbreak of the coronavirus epidemic, another danger threatens the continent but also our country. This is the avian flu alert, according to the warning given by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) to the Member States. The Authority has raised the possibility of this danger to the Member States, following the discovery of new cases.
Where does the virus come from?
An outbreak of bird flu has been discovered in Russia and Kazakhstan, which is vital to stopping the spread of the virus. EU member states are advised to pay attention to surveillance and biosecurity methods. This is a first step in preventing the spread of bird flu. The european commission advises member states to take the necessary measures to prevent outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI).
In previous years, HPAI was detected in the same area of Russia in the summers of 2005 and 2016, following epidemics in northern and eastern Europe.
Harsh warning
“If the pattern is repeated this year, IAAP It will arrive in the same areas of Europe in autumn or winter. The avian breed in Europe is also possible. It’s made by European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and European Union Reference Laboratory for Avian Influenza. The document was prepared for the period May-August 2020.
Only one outbreak discovered this year in Romania
Outbreaks of avian influenza have also occurred in Bulgaria. The first case appeared in February of this year. In Romania, the only outbreak discovered this year was in January this year.
EFSA said that the spread of the virus could be triggered by falling temperatures in Russia and Kazakhstan. Studies have shown that cold weather leads to the rapid spread of the highly pathogenic avian influenza virus by infected migratory birds during the 2005-2006 and 2016-2017 waves.
“The risk of transmitting the avian influenza virus to the general public in Europe remains very low. However, to minimize the risk of transmission to humans, people are advised not to touch dead birds without using the equipment adequate personal protection, “said the European Food Safety Authority. redactia.ro.
