Prime Minister Ludovic Orban commented late Tuesday on the CCR’s decision to set a date for the parliamentary elections, saying he found it “as strange as many other decisions.”
Prime Minister Lodovic Orban commented, on Tuesday night, on B 1 TV, the decision of the CCR on the date to set the date of the parliamentary elections and specified that December 6 was set by the Executive “based on constitutional provisions and current law “.
“Why on December 6? Because two constitutional elements must be taken into account: the duration of the parliamentary mandate, which is four years, and the period of 20 days in which the president convenes Parliament must be taken into account newly elected, ”Orban said.
The prime minister said the Constitutional Court’s decision seemed “as strange as many other decisions.”
“If Parliament cannot fix the date of the elections because the parliamentarians do not reach the quorum, the date cannot be fixed and the parliamentarians are not responsible for their decisions. If the Parliament does not want to fix the date of the elections, it does not have nothing to do with the parliamentarians, who sets the date for the elections? It seems very strange to me, “Orban added.
However, Orban ignores Article 63 of the Constitution, which sets clear deadlines for parliamentary elections.
The Constitutional Court rejected the referral of President Klaus Iohannis and the Executive to the law by which the Parliament establishes the date of the parliamentary elections and not the Government.
The government has decided in a parliamentary election to be held on December 6.
