The revolution in Dacia. What the new Logan and Sandero models look like. The transformations are radical. PHOTO

CVT automatic transmission, sunroof, modular trunk, six airbags, three types of multimedia systems, radar and better sensors – these are briefly the most important innovations implemented by Renault in the third generation of Logan, Sandero and Sandero Stepway. Also for the first time, for the three Dacia models it renounces the 1.5 dCi diesel engine and relies exclusively on the 1.0 TCe (also produced in Mioveni), both in gasoline and LPG versions and with CVT automatic transmission. continuous variation). The standard engine has 90 hp and the LPG engine reaches 100 hp.

For the first time in the recent history of the Dacia brand, the Logan and Sandero models are designed on the same technical platform as the current Renault Clio, representing a true revolution in the manufacturer’s range.

Although Logan and Sandero are no longer Dacia’s “spearheads”, in the foreground is the Duster SUV, these two are the ones that put the local brand on the map of the European automotive industry: Logan in 2004 and Sandero in 2008 .

The third generation of Logan, Sandero and Sandero Stepway models will thus receive access to the latest technologies but also to a modern bodywork. For this reason, there is the possibility that the new Dacia models will also come with hybrid versions to reduce consumption and that diesel engines are no longer available for them.

“The concept of pandemic has driven a new trend in society, that of responsible consumption, of returning to rationality, a strategy on which Dacia is based, of reasonable acquisition,” explained Ionuţ Gheorghe, Dacia’s director of product marketing. .

An important novelty is the presence of an automatic gearbox – CVT – X-Tronic in the Renault Clio, available in both Logan and Sandero and Sandero Stepway with the 90 hp TCe engine. Renault thus abandoned the robotic gearbox and opted for a more efficient automatic.

The new generations were designed at the Technocentre in Paris, but also at the Renault Technologie Roumanie in Bucharest, and the tests were carried out in Titu.

Beyond the engines, about 20% of the parts in a Sandero are common with the new Clio, the two models that share the technical platform for the first time.

With the new Renault changes, îFor the first time, there will be no Renault Logan. Renault will have a saloon of the same class, but it will no longer be called Logan, and the French brand will return to a model like Symbol before Logan.

In addition, another surprise is Logan MCV, about which Dacia did not communicate any details. Previously, company officials said it was against Dacia’s strategy to have Logan MCV and Lodgy in the same segment with Dokker for people, given that previously it was only Logan MCV, which also had a 7-seater version.

From a technological point of view, the new generations are taking a real leap.

The new Sandero & Logan now have front and rear parking sensors, which also include obstacle detection, so that when exiting the parking space, the car can warn the driver of a possible danger. Also for added safety, for the first time, the models come with emergency braking radar for pedestrians or bicycles. The radar system could be configured in the future for adaptive cruise control; cars currently have “ordinary” cruise control, which only maintains speed, not the distance of the car ahead. On the other hand, the cars do not have a lane assist, a lane keeping system, but only a warning system of the presence of another vehicle in the blind spot.

Another novelty is the implementation of LEDs not only for the daytime running lights, but also for the low beam so that the car has the lowest possible fuel consumption, in addition to better visibility at night: LEDs have a Lower consumption of energy, provide a brighter light but are more expensive than classic H7 bulbs. For the same reason, a fully electric power steering system was implemented. Also on the comfort side, it’s worth noting that the new Logan and Sandero will feature automatic windshield wipers and automatic headlights, which will turn on by themselves when it gets dark.

Unlike the Clio, Dacia does not currently have a version with a hybrid powertrain, but LPG was chosen to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, in addition to cost, being a liter of LPG more affordable than a liter of gasoline. In addition, there is an indicator for the LPG level, and with both tanks full a Logan can run up to 1,300 km. In addition, the LPG version has 100 hp, compared to 90 hp for gasoline. The LPG cylinder is located in the trunk, instead of the spare wheel, which has been replaced by a repair kit.

For the first time, Sandero Stepway opted for a double-bottom trunk with a dividing shelf that also helps to form a straight level when folding the rear seat.

Inside, everything has been redesigned. For the first time, the Medianav system has been replaced after 8 years by an 8-inch tablet, and the controls of the air conditioning system have controls similar to those of the Duster or Renault Captur. There are three variants available for the multimedia system: Medianav, multimedia screen, both 8 inches, the first with navigation and the third is a surprise idea: it consists of a support for the phone, which turns the phone into a screen for the multimedia system of the car. with the help of a dedicated application: application that supports controls on the steering wheel. Also for the first time, the new Medianav system has wireless mirroring for the phone screen, so for Android Auto or Apple Car Play no wired connection is necessary, although a USB port is located on the top of the dash.

Dacia now also offers an integrated phone holder alongside the tablet.

Logan has Top Tether ties for the first time behind the headrests in the rear seat. This means that a child seat can be attached much more easily, a great advantage for families with young children.

Logan also comes with tables for the rear seats, located at the rear of the front seats, also useful for small children and on long trips.

Sandero Stepway comes for the first time with a hatch; the hatch also means a modified structure on the roof.

Since 2004, Dacia has sold 6.5 million Logan and Sandero cars and is, according to Renault, the number one in sales to individuals in Europe.

The prices of the new generations will be communicated in the coming weeks, when the orders can be taken.
